Why Moringa & L-Theanine?

At first glance, Moringa and L-theanine may seem like an unusual pair.

One comes from the leaves of a nutrient-rich tree. The other is a specific amino acid naturally associated with tea.

They are very different—and understanding those differences is a good place to start.


Start With Moringa

Moringa oleifera is a tree native to parts of South Asia and now grown throughout many tropical and subtropical regions.

Its leaves have been eaten as food for generations. When researchers analyze those leaves, they find something interesting: Moringa isn’t defined by just one nutrient.

The leaves naturally contain a mixture of plant protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals, carotenoids, polyphenols, and other plant compounds.

That includes nutrients such as calcium, iron, magnesium, vitamin C, and beta-carotene, a carotenoid that can be converted by the body into vitamin A.

But Moringa doesn’t have one universal nutritional profile.

A leaf grown in one part of the world may not have exactly the same composition as a leaf grown somewhere else. Soil, climate, maturity at harvest, drying, and processing can all influence what researchers measure.

That’s an important part of understanding Moringa: it is a whole plant, and whole plants naturally vary.

Then There’s L-Theanine

L-theanine is very different.

Instead of being a whole plant containing many different compounds, L-theanine is one specific amino acid.

It occurs naturally in Camellia sinensis, the plant used to produce green, black, white, and oolong teas.

Here’s another interesting difference: when people hear “amino acid,” they often think of protein. But L-theanine is considered a non-protein amino acid. It isn’t one of the standard amino acids the body uses to build proteins.

Researchers have studied its chemistry and natural occurrence in tea, giving us a clear picture of what the compound itself is.

So Why Put Them Together?

This is where the idea behind MoringaXcel™ becomes easier to understand.

Moringa brings the complexity of a whole plant. L-theanine brings the simplicity of one clearly defined compound.

We chose not to surround them with a long list of additional ingredients.

Instead, MoringaXcel™ was built around two ingredients that can each be identified, studied, and explained on their own.

That matters because we want people to know what’s in the bottle—not simply recognize a list of impressive-sounding ingredients.

Two Ingredients. Two Different Stories.

There’s another reason we teach about Moringa and L-theanine separately.

Scientific research on an ingredient doesn’t automatically become research on every product containing that ingredient.

A study of Moringa tells us something about the Moringa that was studied.

A study of L-theanine tells us something about the L-theanine that was studied.

It does not automatically tell us what will happen when the two are combined in a finished product.

That’s an important distinction—and one we believe people should understand when reading about supplements.
